Rabble!

Ok, so I've been putting this off for a while. But over the past month I've been spending money. And downloading a lot. Since I rebuild my computer nearly 10 months ago I've ALMOST filled my hard drives.

Although, to be fair, some of it is pure laziness. I've got DVD iso's from Green Cine waiting for conversion into MPEG-4. What? Not Netflix?

TRUTH 1: Netflix THROTTLES.
EXPLANATION: If you're a heavy renter, your rentals will yeild to less frequent renters. If someone who rents less than you do wants the same thing at the top of your list as theirs, they will get it. This way they can "hopefully" not send you anything and not let you rape them so badly. This harkens back to "100% UNLIMITED INTERNET! (500MB download limit per month)" tom foolery of years past.

TRUTH 2: Netflix's Anime selection is POOR.
EXPLANATION: Sure, they'll have a billion copies of Naruto I'm sure, but I'm not gonna find the Urusei Yatsura TV episodes there. Something even LESS in demand? How about Marmalade Boy? FAH!

TRUTH 3: Netflix is SUING Blockbuster for stealing their business design.
EXPLANATION: What if McDonalds sued Burger King? Ford sued GM? FedEx sued UPS? USPS sued both FedEx and UPS? How can you "steal" a business design? Rental is not a Netflix invention. Any reasonable person would recognize that competition is good. Sometimes patents are given that SHOULDN'T BE.

So I choose not to use Netflix. You shouldn't use them either. (THIS STATEMENT IS AN OFFICIAL MANX SEAL OF DISAPPROVAL.)

...

Hmm... I need to get me a seal of disapproval.

Early Warning

Oh, by the way, THE BEARD's days are numbered.

If this works out, I don't think I'll grow one next year. I'm going to try and see if the Kevin Smith thang can work out for me. So far I think it might be a hassle because not only do I have to clip to a certain length, I'd also have to shave. When I'm clean(-ish) shaven, it's easy because I don't have to think in order to shave. Just paint shaving cream all over and hack it all off. With a controlled beard I'll have to work around it.

I'm going to beta test it next week. I gotta get some black sneakers, a comfortable baseball cap, a thin white undershirt, and a trench coat. We'll see how the collection goes. What's the occasion? I'm going to Jacon! Won't you go also?

...

Yeah yeah, so I'm late. No group rate available anymore. And I didn't breathe a word about it here until today. Oh well.

I intend to fall in love that weekend. And despair when the love could never be. Sing with me now: HIGH hopes, we've got, HIIIIIIIIIGGGGGHHHH hopes.

(Oh, and, I'm also hopelessly in love with Erin Esurance. It doesn't make me want to buy my car insurance from them, though. Flaw of advertising? Maybe, but I think she's friggin' hot. Nice voice too. Seems like a bit of a goody-goody though. I'd love to totally dirty up her mind. Am I now officially crazy? Well, not over-the-top crazy. I already found some hentai of her. AND in the process found some Daria porn fancomic? That's very not hot. BUT, wow, I have to hold onto this.)

:3

This song's for you. :3

(lol)

No drama lately. On one hand, that's pretty good. On the other hand, it's dull.

Meh.

Crossing Guard

I'm looking for a new persistant game to play.

As the packing and stowing my things reaches maximum density, I've come to realize there's not much fun to be had here. I've got the DS out (and, yes, I did break down and get Tetris DS: 210001 649472, more on this some other day), and I did get a new charcoal Game Boy Advance SP for shits and giggles (my collection is now up to 6: two import pearl blues, one cobolt blue, this charcoal, and two NES classic ones... and to think I never had an unlit-GBA)

But I gotta have my computer. It's here. It'll be the last thing I take, so it can be the first thing installed. In the meantime, what to do?

I've wanted to get back into the progressive RPG thing again. Not so much because I like the grind, but because I havn't seen maybe 30% of anything. Everquest I stopped at 44. I tried the trial of EQ2, for fun (mostly because it was available on FilePlanet, even though that version doesn't work anymore) and I've been ensnared once again.

The way I see it, there are only three civilized options available to me.

1. Everquest 2.
2. World of Warcraft.
3. Everquest.
4. Ragnarok Online.

Yes, one of those does not belong. It's not that I don't like RO, I *DO*. It's just that the "build" is too important and if you make one mistake upgrading your character, it's trash. A single point difference can mean the difference between a minotaur knocking the stuffing out of you and you finishing it off within an inch of your life. It's a problem because there really aren't natural progression of abilities: it's all deliberately controlled by the user. In an RP standpoint, it doesn't make sense. In a gaming standpoint, it doesn't make sense. I mean, it's usually better in RPGs to specialize rather than try to be well rounded (be excellent at one thing instead of mediocre at all things), but RO takes it to an extreme. If you pour all your points where it makes most sense, you wind up having severe deficiencies, making things a Rock-Paper-Scissors type of thing. Which I suppose is ok, but only if you're playing Rock-Paper-Scissors.

It might be a programming issue (oh, those crazy Koreans!), in which case it's a problem. Or it might be supposed to be that way, in which case it's still a problem for me. Plus, I won't pay for RO. It's very not finished. Perpetually beta. Ick. Free servers? After losing my Assassin on one of those free ones because the sysops had a hissy fit and closed the whole server, never again.

EQ2 is fun, but, then again, they're ALL fun in the newbie levels. I played with four characters, and the last one I created was pretty much the worst out of the bunch. I realized then that the first three had XP bonuses. Hmmm... sounds like they're manipulating the level tables to trick people into signing up?

WOW? Never played it. That "everyone" plays it isn't enough to get me into it.

My biggest complaint about MMORPGs is that there are limits to where you can solo. If you like to group and be social and raid and stuff EVERYTHING is open to you. But there's nothing open to the lone-wolf soloer that groupers can't do. And those fish can't hardly do anything to begin with, but nevermind the horrible pun. And this is by design, as individual characters, through specialization, shouldn't be able to get to a point where they can be good at everything, insofar as you'd have to have a variety of skills and abilities to claw through the toughest of tough zones.

We'll see.
